Vade Retro Satana (VRS Book 1)
The word "amulet" comes from the Latin word amuletum, which Pliny's Natural History describes as "an object that protects a person from trouble". Anything can function as an amulet; items commonly so used include gems, statues, coins, drawings, plant parts, animal parts, and written words.
Saint Michael the Archangel is referenced in the Old Testament and has been part of Christian teachings since the earliest times. In Catholic writings and traditions he acts as the defender of the Church, and chief opponent of Satan; and assists souls at the hour of death. The Catholic Church authorizes the use of exorcism for those who are believed to be the victims of demonic possession. In Roman Catholicism, exorcism is sacramental but not a sacrament, unlike baptism or confession. Unlike a sacrament, exorcism's "integrity and efficacy do not depend Its efficacy depends on two elements: authorization from valid and licit Church authorities, and the faith of the exorcist.

I have never watched or read books that involves exorcism because that topic really spooks me out. I really feel for Austan and see how he would choose his own path between good or evil and despite his father's meddling in his life, Austan stayed strong till the end.

On the other hand, Gabe and Imani are both the same with Austan. Wanting something for more in their lives than what is handed to them. It's nice to see the these characters striving the hardships that life has given and despite choosing different choices on how to live their life, they were able to pass the trials handed to them. His story was both bittersweet and sad. I'm glad that he had Fr. Bonaventure at his side. I hope there's more. The ending was sort of a cliffhanger. Jan 14, Jennifer McDonald rated it it was amazing. It was refreshing and believable. But the star of the book for me was Gabe. I found myself chuckling at his laid back reactions to the craziness going on around him, and sometimes within him.
Great read! Hope there is a second one. Sep 06, Sara Mojica rated it really liked it Shelves: ya , hot-covers , covergasm , mystery , demons , bad-ass , kick-ass. The background story is rather creepy but intriguing at the same time, like in movies where you don't want to watch but you just can't look away! The story is a perfect balance of intense, hilarious, and mystery. What really worked for this novel was the mixture of personalities from the characters: Austan was aloof and mysterious but conflicted about who he was and what that meant, Imani was a strong hearted girl who just wanted to get ahead in life, and Gabe was the kid that is always striving to please everyone.
Their interactions were great to watch and it reminded me of my time in high school. I liked how we get to see the characters struggle with developing who they will become because that is something we all go through The choices and consequences of our actions are what makes us who we are and that is no different for Austan, Imani and Gabe.
Told from different perspectives, Vade Retro Satana is the story of how parents influence ones life and how that affects those around you. Austan will need to find the strength to do the right thing even if it's not what he want or there will be consequences Michele Suzanne, thank you for introducing me to this gang of witty and stunning characters, I look forward to see where you take them!
Mar 04, Diandra rated it really liked it. First let me say I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. I loved it! I adore Austan's character. He's a bad ass but still a good person at heart. At times I found Imani's and his relationship a bit confusing.

For example the way she's so honest with him yet she tries not to let him get too close I hate Austan's dad. He's a douchebag but that's expected of the Devil. Gabe's character is amazing. He's so honest and sweet but not in an unrealistic way. He does give in t First let me say I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
He does give in to temptation sometimes which is ok. Overall it's a cool book. Looking forward to book 2. Sep 21, Sarah-Jayne Briggs rated it really liked it.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. This review may contain spoilers. This book was quite an interesting read. Parts of it put me in mind of a mini-series called Point Pleasant. There were some similarities there. I did like Austan as a character. I could really relate to his desires to be a normal teenager - and out from under his dad's thumb, an issue prevalent with all kids - but that takes on a new meaning for someone whose father is Satan.
There wer I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. There were some parts of this book that brought back some old feelings that I had - like the bullying that went on. I was able to get through those scenes, but they were still a bit hard to read. I liked Imani - and Gabe, too. A lot of the characters were well-rounded, but out of the 'thugs' in the book, only Devon really seemed to have any depth to him. Quinn and Skylar just came across as fairly generic bad guys. The romance in this book was really easy to read and I found it quite believable.
According to the accounts given to us in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, Satan tempted Jesus three times. First, he invited Jesus to turn stones into bread to relieve his hunger.

Finally, Satan told Jesus that if he worshiped him rather than God, he would be given all the kingdoms of the world. Jesus is visited by Satan in the desert. Satan turned out to be an early Keynesian — probably the earliest one — by proposing a short cut to turning stones into bread.
Jesus had the presence of mind and moral fortitude to tell him to go to hell. That always seemed like a pretty good offer to us; we would have hit the bid button. But not Jesus. Stones into bread?
You must be joking …. We have heard this story many times. It comes up about this time of year, as priests and preachers try to make sense of the Lenten season. They urge us to turn away from vulgarity and mundanity and focus on a purer, simpler relationship with God. The other day, I decided not to look at it at all. So I went around town… I went to the mall… and I was shocked…. And I can report to you that there are other human beings on this planet! Real people. Whose faces tell a real story. The death of live conversation …. I mean about turning away from social media.
A big waste of time. When you and I were young, we went outside.
